HUD WEBCAST NOTICE
Dear Residents and Resident Advocates,
Please join us on Monday, March 29 from
12:30-2:00 (Eastern) for Transforming Rental
Assistance (TRA): An Informational Webcast for
Residents of HUD’s Rental Assistance
Programs.
During this webcast, Sandra Henriquez,
Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian
Affairs, and Barbara Sard, Senior Advisor for
Rental Assistance Programs in the Office of the
Secretary and senior staff from the Multifamily
Office, will provide details and answer
questions on HUD’s Transforming Rental
Assistance initiative.
The webcast can be accessed by going to
www.hud.gov and clicking on Resources then
Webcasts then Schedule of Upcoming Webcasts or
by going directly to this page:
http://portal.hud.gov/portal/page/portal/HUD/webcasts/schedule
The webcast link will "go live" about 15
minutes before the webcast starts.
There is no need to register for the webcast,
just be in front of your computer at 12:30. You
may want to ensure that your computer is ready
before-hand. You'll need something faster than
a dial-up internet connection, the ability to
play sound on your computer, and windows media
player, which is available for free download
from the webcast page.
You may also check with your local Field Office
to see if you might view the webcast with them.
You will be able to ask questions during the
webcast either by calling a 1-800 number or by
submitting questions via email to an email
address that will be announced during the call.
We anticipate a lot of viewers, so if for some
reason the live feed is not working, please
note that the webcast will be archived for
future viewing. There is also a webcast help
number on the website that you can contact.
Here are some other hints from the webcast
team:
As a reminder to any of your viewers who have
slow internet to use the 100 KBS setting rather
than the higher quality 300kb. This should
avoid any skipping or buffering issues. And
always they should make sure that they are not
running other programs in the background as
well as making sure that their cookies and
cache is clear and not overloaded as this slows
down the performance of their system.

ENERGY ALERT
Your HACC utility allowance is intended to
provide for the energy needs of an energy
conservative household of modest means. The
allowance is based upon actual rates and
average consumption estimates for the area as a
whole. Although the NI Gas rate was increased
8% on October 4, 2005 for the first time since
April 11, 1996 you have paid more for gas
because the price of the fuel has increased,
and winter gas prices are anticipated to surge
by some estimates as much as 71%. It is up to
you to control your costs.
The energy tips below came from Nicor Gas and
they are intended to help you “lessen the
impact of higher gas prices.”
Enroll in the Budget
plan. It attempts to even out your
payments over a 12-month period. Your winter
bills will be lower because you will also be
paying a portion of your winter gas costs
during the summer.
Turn your heat down.
For every degree you set you heat back, you can
save 4 –5 percent on your heating bill.
Try setting back your thermostat one degree
each day to determine the temperature at which
your family feels the most comfortable.
Set the temperature down 10 degrees
overnight. You can reduce your
costs 5-15 percent with just a 10-degree set
back at night.
Apply early for the Low Income
Heating Energy Assistance Program
(LIHEAP).

HOUSING FOR SENIORS IN RIVERDALE, IL
The Housing Authority of the County of Cook
